Teen Facing DUI/Felony Charges Following Pursuit In Stolen Vehicle

Delaware State Police have arrested a 17-year-old male from Dover on multiple charges, including DUI and felony offenses, following a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in the early morning hours of May 15, 2025.

At approximately 12:42 a.m., a trooper on patrol in the Capitol Park neighborhood observed a Lexus ES350 traveling eastbound on President Drive approaching Bay Road. A routine computer check of the vehicle’s registration revealed that the Lexus had been reported stolen from Maryland. When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver failed to comply and fled.

The ensuing pursuit led troopers through several streets in the Dover area as the suspect vehicle traveled at high speeds and operated in a reckless manner. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Roosevelt Avenue near River Chase Drive, at which point both the driver and an unidentified passenger fled on foot.

Troopers conducted a search of the surrounding area and located the driver a short time later. Upon contact, the teen displayed signs of impairment and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to Troop 3, where troopers conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.

The 17-year-old was subsequently charged with Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal (Felony), Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500 (Felony), Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony), Resisting Arrest, Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Driving Without a Valid License, and Reckless Driving. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and released on his own recognizance to a parent or guardian.
