Young Man Killed In Dover Memorial Day Crash

DOVER, DE — The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred late Monday night on North DuPont Highway, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old man from Dover.

The incident was reported at approximately 10:54 p.m. on May 26, 2026, when a caller notified authorities that a vehicle had struck a utility pole and transformer in the 600 block of North DuPont Highway. Responding officers located a 2003 Toyota Camry that had crashed and subsequently caught fire.

Personnel from the Dover Fire Department responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the flames. Firefighters then worked to extricate the driver from the wreckage. Despite their efforts, the driver succumbed to injuries sustained during the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Prior to first responders’ arrival Good Samaritans made efforts victim but were driven back by the flames.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the Camry had been traveling southbound on North DuPont Highway when it veered off the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation. The vehicle collided with a utility pole, causing significant damage and igniting the fire police said.

The deceased was transferred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further examination. Authorities have not released the victim’s name, pending notification of next of kin.
