Delaware State Police have charged a 29-year-old Bridgeville man with multiple felonies following a traffic stop that resulted in his sixth DUI arrest.
Officials said at approximately 8:00 a.m. on May 31, 2025, a trooper observed a Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Coverdale Road near Nat Turner Street in Bridgeville. The trooper conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Cristian Velasquez.
According to investigators, Velasquez exhibited numerous signs of impairment and refused to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He was taken into custody without incident. During a search, troopers reportedly found a folding knife in his pocket police said. A background check confirmed that Velasquez is a convicted felon, had five previous DUI-related convictions, and was driving with a suspended or revoked license added police.
Velasquez was transported to Troop 5, where he was formally charged with 6th Offense DUI, Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited Due to a Prior Violent Crime, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Driving While Suspended or Revoked, Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession, and Speeding.
Following arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 3, Velasquez was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $15,150 secured bond.
