Delaware State Police have arrested 74-year-old Peter Reidy of Dover following a Friday afternoon incident at the Rodney Village Shopping Center that resulted in multiple felony charges.
Officials said on May 30, 2025, at approximately 1:58 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the shopping center located at 1606 South Governors Avenue in Dover for a report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, troopers located Reidy, who appeared intoxicated and had been sprayed with pepper spray police said.
According to investigators, Reidy had been acting disorderly in the parking lot and approached a man exiting his vehicle in front of Harbor Freight. Reidy was reportedly armed with a screwdriver and aggressively confronted the man. A woman and two children were inside the victim’s vehicle at the time of the encounter. Police say Reidy grabbed the man and pushed him against the vehicle before the woman intervened by deploying pepper spray, which stopped the altercation. The victim was not injured.
Reidy was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident. After being discharged, he was taken to Troop 3 for processing.
Following his arrest, Reidy was charged with Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony), Aggravated Menacing (Felony), two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Offensive Touching, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Intoxication. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $47,201 secured bond.
