Wilmington House Fire Keeps Firefighters Busy Tuesday Night

WILMINGTON, DE – On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at approximately 7:55 p.m., the Wilmington Fire Department was dispatched to the 1300 block of Oak Street following reports of smoke coming from the second floor of a residence.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke showing from the second floor of a two-story row dwelling. Crews launched an aggressive interior attack on the blaze while simultaneously searching the structure for trapped occupants. All residents had safely evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival.

Firefighters contained the main body of fire to a second-floor front room but encountered concealed flames in the attic space, which required opening portions of the roof and ceiling. The residence sustained significant fire damage to the second floor, along with smoke and water damage on the first floor. Neighboring homes experienced minor smoke damage.

Approximately 35 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene. Responding units included Engine Companies 1, 5, and 6; Squad 4; Ladder Companies 1 and 2; Battalion Chiefs 1 and 2; Saint Francis Hospital EMS; and New Castle County Paramedics.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
