Wilmington Police have confirmed that charges are pending against a 33-year-old man following a fatal crash that occurred early Tuesday morning after he fled from officers. Authorities say the crash left a four-month-old child dead and several others seriously injured.
The incident began at approximately 1:16 a.m. on September 16, when officers conducted a vehicle stop on Interstate 95. Officials said as they approached, the driver, who was wanted on multiple offenses, fled northbound at a high rate of speed. Delaware State Police joined the pursuit as the vehicle exited at Marsh Road and continued toward Edgemoor Road. The driver lost control near the Paladin Club, striking a utility pole and a fence before coming to rest off the roadway.
Emergency crews arrived to find the aftermath of the violent collision. The driver and a four-month-old male passenger were both reportedly ejected. The infant, identified as Maurice Brown, Jr., was rushed to Nemours Children’s Hospital, where he later died. Reports indicate that a police officer transported the child immediately from the crash scene. The driver was transported to the hospital in critical condition. A 32-year-old female passenger and a 10-year-old girl were also hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police said that criminal charges are pending against the driver in connection with the pursuit and the death of the infant. The case remains under investigation by the Wilmington Police Special Operations Division Traffic Unit.
