Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide In Fatal Crash

Wilmington Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian on Thursday night.

At approximately 9:20 p.m. on September 18, officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Northeast Boulevard for a reported motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Responding officers located a 21-year-old male victim who had succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Police took the operator of the striking vehicle, identified as 31-year-old Jose Ayala-Medina, into custody without incident. Ayala-Medina has been charged with Vehicular Homicide in the Second Degree, Driving Under the Influence, and additional traffic-related offenses.

The case remains under investigation by the Wilmington Police Department Traffic Unit. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Master Corporal Marc Martinez at (302) 571-4413.
