Man Facing Assault Charge In Thursday Shooting

Wilmington Police announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 1:57 p.m. on September 18, officers responded to the area of West 2nd and North DuPont Streets for a reported shooting. A 24-year-old male victim suffering from gunshot wounds was located after arriving at the hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators obtained a description of the suspect vehicle at the scene. A short time later, officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to comply and fled. The vehicle was later discovered in the area of Oak and South Broom Streets, where officers took 24-year-old Travon Norton into custody without further incident. Police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun during the investigation.

Norton has been charged with Assault in the First Degree, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, two counts of Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited, Unlawful Imprisonment, and Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $420,000 cash-only bail.
