Man Released On Unsecured Bond In Crash That Seriously Injured Two

A 32-year-old Hockessin man has been arrested following a two-vehicle crash in Newark that left two people seriously injured Saturday night.

According to Delaware State Police, the collision occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on October 11, 2025, at the intersection of Paper Mill Road and Polly Drummond Hill Road. Investigators determined that a Kia Sportage, traveling northbound on Polly Drummond Hill Road, failed to stop at a red light and entered the intersection, where it was struck by a southbound Kia Forte police said.

Troopers identified the driver of the Sportage as Tristan Proffitt. Police say he showed multiple signs of impairment, prompting troopers to initiate a DUI investigation. After completing field sobriety tests, Proffitt was taken into custody without incident.

The 40-year-old driver of the Forte, from Middletown, and a 21-year-old passenger from Newark were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Proffitt was taken to Troop 6, charged with two counts of first-degree vehicular assault, driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs, and failure to stop at a red light. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
