A Wilmington man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a Maryland Avenue grocery store after investigators identified and stopped the vehicle believed to have been used in the crime.
According to Delaware State Police, the robbery occurred on November 14, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m. at La Oaxaquena Grocery Store on North Maryland Avenue. Two suspects entered the business and demanded money from an employee. During the encounter, one suspect pointed a handgun at customers and staff. Investigators said the armed suspect lost balance while leaning over the counter and fired a single round, which did not strike anyone. The pair fled with cash and personal property before leaving the area in a dark sedan.

Detectives later identified the vehicle as a black Hyundai Elantra bearing a Virginia registration. On November 15 at around 9:00 p.m., Wilmington Police located and stopped the Elantra, identifying the driver as 36-year-old Ignacio Reyes-Hernandez of Wilmington. State police detectives took him into custody and determined he was involved in the robbery. He was transported to Troop 2, charged, arraigned, and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $68,000 cash bond.
State police said the investigation is ongoing as detectives continue searching for the second suspect, described as a Black man approximately 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighing between 200 and 230 pounds, last seen wearing a black jacket, black pants, black boots, and a black ski mask. The case remains under review by the Troop 2 Robbery Unit.
