Nap Turns Into Multiple Charges For New Castle Man

Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have charged 48-year-old Emmett Poon of New Castle with multiple felony and misdemeanor offenses following what authorities described as a vehicle investigation late Thursday night.

According to police, at approximately 10:14 p.m. on November 6, officers observed a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with an unconscious driver idling in the middle of the roadway near River Road and Saienni Boulevard in New Castle. Investigators said that without warning, the driver suddenly accelerated, left the roadway, and came to rest in a grassy area.

Police reported that officers approached the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to comply, rolled up his windows, and increased the volume of his music. After several minutes, police said the driver exited the vehicle and was detained. He was identified by officers as Emmett Poon.

Authorities stated that a loaded handgun was visible on the front passenger seat. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the seizure of the firearm, a second handgun magazine, and a quantity of what police identified as Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA).

Investigators said Poon was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm while under the influence, possession of a controlled counterfeit substance, driving under the influence, and related traffic offenses.

Police reported that Poon was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $22,700 secured bail.
