Fire In Middletown Sends Two To Hospital Saturday

A residential fire in Middletown sent two people to the hospital Friday afternoon and remains under investigation by state fire officials.

According to New Castle County Paramedics, crews were dispatched at approximately 1:15 p.m. to the 700 block of Cleaver Farms Road in the Villagebrook Trailer Park for a reported structure fire. Responding units arrived and confirmed an active fire with injured occupants.

Two patients were transported to Christiana Hospital in Stanton by New Castle County Paramedics on board a Volunteer Hose Company ambulance. One patient, an approximately 77-year-old man, was reported to be in critical condition with burns to his extremities and possible smoke inhalation. A second patient, an approximately 75-year-old woman, was reported to be in serious condition with possible internal injuries and smoke inhalation.

A third patient was evaluated at the scene by paramedics and declined transportation to the hospital.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Agencies responding to the incident included New Castle County Paramedics, the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, Odessa Fire Company, Townsend Fire Company, and Port Penn Fire Company.
