Federal authorities announced that 35-year-old Amir Watts, of Dover, received a sentence of 150 months in prison after being convicted of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.
Court records state that Watts was taken into custody while en route to sell approximately two pounds of methamphetamine to an undercover officer. Investigators determined that in the months leading up to his arrest, Watts had conducted multiple transactions with the same undercover officer, involving increasing quantities of methamphetamine as well as the sale of a firearm.
Benjamin L. Wallace stated that the case reflects the dangers associated with the combination of illegal drugs and firearms, noting that the sentence addresses the severity of the conduct. Officials also highlighted the role of coordinated law enforcement efforts in the investigation.
Thomas Hodnett said the sentence underscores continued efforts to disrupt criminal activity that threatens public safety, citing collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies.
The sentence was imposed by Maryellen Noreika in the U.S. District Court in Wilmington.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Delaware State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Claudia L. Pare prosecuted the case.
