Teen Accused In 2025 Shooting Finally Caught, What Charges Will He Face

Wilmington Police Department have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that left a 20-year-old man critically injured last year.

The incident occurred on June 4, 2025, at approximately 2:25 p.m., when officers with the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 1000 block of East 10th Street for reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, police located a gunshot victim who was later transported to a hospital in critical condition.

The investigation was assigned to Detective Justin Wilkers of the Criminal Investigations Division. Authorities said the investigation led to the identification of 19-year-old Nyiem Mitchell as the suspect, and a warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.

On April 21, 2026, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the unit block of Printz Drive, where Mitchell was taken into custody without incident.

Mitchell has been charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released after posting $65,000 secured bail.
