A 26-year-old Felton woman died following a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in Dover, according to the Dover Police Department.
Police said the crash occurred at approximately 12:44 a.m. in the Unit Block of South New Street, just south of West Division Street. Responding officers located a 2013 Nissan Murano that had crashed into a tree on the east side of the roadway.
Officers found the driver, identified as Aalyah Casson, suffering from serious injuries inside the vehicle. Police and emergency medical personnel immediately began rendering aid at the scene, however, Casson later succumbed to her injuries.
The preliminary investigation determined that Casson had been traveling westbound on West Division Street when she turned left onto South New Street at a high rate of speed police said. After making the turn, the Nissan left the roadway and struck a tree.
Investigators also determined that Casson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
