Delaware State Police have identified the woman killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Laurel as 54-year-old Norma Eckard of Delmar.
The crash occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on August 27 at the intersection of Salt Barn Road and Old Stage Road in Laurel.
According to Delaware State Police, a Nissan Frontier was traveling westbound on Salt Barn Road toward a stop sign at Old Stage Road while a Kia Sportage, driven by Eckard, was traveling southbound on Old Stage Road.
The preliminary investigation determined that the Nissan failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection, where it struck the driver’s side front of the Kia.
Eckard was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Nissan was driven by a 63-year-old Laurel man. He was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Delaware State Police are continuing to investigate the fatal crash.
