Earlier this month a 34-year-old man wanted in connection with a shooting in the U.S. Virgin Islands was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service at Delaware Park after investigators reportedly discovered he was working there as a horse handler.

Dumaray Iles, of St. Croix, was wanted by the Virgin Islands Police Department on charges of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and mayhem stemming from a November 27, 2025, shooting in the Golden Rock area of Christiansted.

Authorities said the Virgin Islands Police Department requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force on August 4, 2026, to locate and apprehend Iles.

During the investigation, U.S. Marshals investigators, working with Homeland Security Investigations, determined that Iles had left the Virgin Islands and traveled to Philadelphia in May 2026.

On September 30, investigators received information indicating that Iles was employed as a horse handler at Delaware Park Racetrack according to media reportd. The U.S. Marshals Service in the Virgin Islands subsequently contacted its counterparts in Delaware for assistance.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Delaware First State Fugitive Task Force located Iles at the racetrack and took him into custody without incident.

Iles was being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington pending extradition to the U.S. Virgin Islands. He has since been extridicted according to court records.

“Those wanted for violent crimes should understand that crossing state lines or traveling thousands of miles will not stop the U.S. Marshals Service from pursuing them,” said Kwesi R. Howard, U.S. Marshal for the District of the Virgin Islands.
