A pedestrian died Friday evening after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Library Avenue and East Delaware Avenue in Newark.
Newark Police said officers responded to the intersection at approximately 7:20 p.m. on October 9, 2026, following a report of a pedestrian crash.
Officers located the pedestrian and the driver at the scene and began providing medical assistance until crews from Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Fire Company and New Castle County Paramedics arrived and took over care.
The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Police have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
The Newark Police Department’s Traffic Response Unit responded to investigate the crash. The intersection remained closed for approximately three hours while investigators processed the scene.
