A 45-year-old Townsend man was arrested Wednesday morning after Delaware State Police said a traffic stop in Dover led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine and evidence of impaired driving.
John Dillmore was charged with felony fifth-offense DUI and several drug-related offenses following the October 7, 2026, traffic stop.
At approximately 11 a.m., a trooper patrolling Route 1 near Fast Landing Road observed a Ford F-150 make an illegal turn from the highway onto an emergency access road police said.
The trooper stopped the vehicle and contacted Dillmore, who was driving. Police said the trooper noticed signs of impairment and drug-related evidence in plain view.
Dillmore was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests and continued to show signs of impairment, according to police. He was taken into custody without incident.
A search of the truck uncovered approximately 0.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a half-full flask containing alcohol and additional drug paraphernalia.
A records check revealed that Dillmore had four previous DUI convictions according to police.
Dillmore was transported to Troop 9 and charged with felony fifth-offense DUI involving drugs, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to obey a traffic device.
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and released on a $7,500 unsecured bond.
