Update: 15 Children On Day Care Bus When Struck By Truck

Delaware City- Delaware State Police continue to investigate a two vehicle crash involving a school bus with 15 children which occurred this afternoon north of Delaware City.

The investigation thus far has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 3:28 p.m., as Althea A. La-Rose, 32 of Bear, was operating a 2006 Chevrolet Express School Bus and was attempting to make a left hand turn from eastbound Wrangle Hill Road onto northbound River Road. As La-Rose began the turn, she drove into the path of a 2016 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck, operated by Leroy Esh, 24 of Pennsylvania, which was traveling in a westbound direction on Wrangle Hill Road. The front of the pickup truck struck the right side of the bus, which was carrying 15 children ages 6-11 years old of the Passion Care Day Care Center in Bear. Both vehicles came to rest in the intersection.

Althea A. La-Rose, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was not injured. She was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way to Oncoming Traffic.

Leroy Esh, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was not injured.

All of the children were transported to a local area hospital as a precautionary measure by privately owned vehicles and by EMS. One child was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Wrangle Hill Road (SR 72) at River Road (SR 9) in the area of the crash was closed for approximately twenty minutes as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Delaware City – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a two vehicle crash involving a day care bus on Wrangle Hill Road at River Road which occurred at around 3:28 p.m. this afternoon. At this time it is unknown how many people are injured and the extent of their injuries.

Wrangle Hill Road at River Road in the area of the crash is currently closed. Commuters are advised to use caution in the area of the crash as troopers are continuing to investigate the collision.
