Millsboro – State Troopers have arrested two people after drugs were located in a Millsboro area home, according to State Police.
Officials said the incident occurred around 5:10 p.m. Monday July 17, 2017 when troopers were called to assist Delaware Division of Family Services (DFS) with an emergency custody issue at a residence located in the 27000 block of Sandy Drive. Upon arrival, the young child was removed from the home and placed in the care of DFS.
During the investigation it was determined that drugs were being kept in the house and a consent to search was approved by the homeowner, according to police. Troopers located Deshawn D. Handy, 24 of Seaford, and Kayla M. Larosa, 21 of Georgetown, in a bedroom and placed them into custody.
Officials said located between the mattress and box spring of the bed the two were sitting on was a black cloth bag containing 13.96 grams of cocaine, 3.52 grams of crack cocaine, and 271 bags (1.897 grams) of heroin. A search of Handy revealed he was in possession of over $1,600.00 in suspected drug proceeds, according to authorities.
Deshawn Handy and Kayla Larosa were transported back to Troop 4 in Georgetown where Handy was charged with three counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was arraigned at JP3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $72,750 secured bond.
Larosa was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was arraigned at JP3 and released on $5,000.00 unsecured bond.
The young child has no relationship to the two arrested, according to police.
