Fire Marshal: Newark Apartment Fire Was Caused By Unattended Cooking, $10K In Damage

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that this afternoon’s building fire in Newark, DE., was accidental, according to Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal Robert Fox.

Fox said the Christiana Fire Company was called to the unit block of Tahoe Court, In the Iron Hill Apartments, shortly after noon today for a report of a building fire. Upon arrival Fire Department units found smoke coming from a third floor apartment.

State Fire Marshal Deputies were called to the scene to conduct an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. Investigation revealed that the fire originated in a third floor apartment and was caused by unattended cooking, according to Fox.

Damage was estimated at $10,000 dollars. No injuries were reported. The apartment complex is working with the victims for placement into another apartment.
