Just after 2:45 this afternoon, Tuesday, June 19, 2018, firefighters from Christana Fire Company, along with crews from Aetna, Hose, Hook and Ladder responded to the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and Albe Drive for a smoke investigation.

Upon arrival, crews began reporting heavy smoke showing from Newark Recycling, on Albe Drive.

As crews entered the business they reported that two vehicles and a pile of scrap were on fire. Upon his arrival, Aetna’s Chief, Andrew Bowerson confirmed the initial reports.

One nearby resident, Laura Baker, who lives off of Reybold Road, reported hearing a loud noise before her house shook.

“I heard a bang. Like car crash type sound but the house shook. I thought something hit my house or exploded in my house. And a neighbor about five doors down texted me asking me if I heard an explosion”, said Baker.

At 3:47 pm Chief Bowerson reported that the incident was under control.

No injuries have been reported.
