Troopers: Father Indicted For Murder By Abuse Or Neglect In Death Of His Child

Bridgeville – A Bridgeville man has been indicted on Murder by Abuse or Neglect charges in connection with the death of his child, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the investigation began in late September 2018 when Troopers were made aware of the death of a child. It was learned that a one-year-old child was on a ventilator and in the care of his father, 28-year-old Michael D. Lewis at a residence on 2nd street in the Walkers Mill Mobile Home Park.

The child became unresponsive and was transported by Lewis to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where the child was pronounced deceased.

Troopers have alleged that Lewis neglected the proper care of the child while on the ventilator.

On October 24, 2018, Lewis was indicted for Murder by Abuse or Neglect First Degree. He was arraigned before the Sussex County Superior Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $500,000.00 cash only bond.
