Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a 23-year-old man for stealing a dirt bike.
Officials said on March 19, police responded to the 1400 block of Lancaster Avenue in reference to the theft of a dirt bike that took place when the victim met with the suspect after arranging a sale of the dirt bike over social media.
The victim described the suspect to officers, who were familiar with a man matching that description who also had outstanding warrants. The victim positively identified the suspect in a photo lineup developed by patrol officers and detectives, police said.
Warrants were secured for 23-year-old William Weaver in relation to the theft, and on March 27 at approximately 10:29 a.m., patrol officers took Weaver into custody at his home without incident.
Weaver has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and released on $2,000 unsecured bail. He was also processed on two outstanding warrants – burglary (second degree) and theft under $1,500 – and was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and released on $12,000 unsecured bail on those charges.
The dirt bike, a 1997 red, white and blue Honda XR70R, has not yet been located.
