New Castle County

Never Forget 5K In Newark
Join us to honor and remember all those who lost their lives on 9-11.  Run or walk. Let’s come together as a community to NEVER FORGET!
Our charity partner for this event is the Vets Center. They will be using the money to charter a bus and take veterans to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials.

Delaware Military Academy
A ceremony to commemorate the fallen heroes of 9/11 will be held from 8 am – 9 am.

The University of Delaware and the City of Newark will hold a ceremony commemorating 9/11  at 9 a.m. in Olan Thomas Park at Paper Mill Road and Cleveland Avenue. The park includes a 9/11 memorial garden.  Honor Guards from the Newark and University of Delaware police departments along with members of the University’s Air Force and Army ROTCs will be in attendance.

Kent County

Air Mobility Command Museum
A public memorial service will be held at the Air Mobility Command Museum. The ceremony is hosted by Dover Air Force Base Fire Emergency Services, to commemorate the fallen heroes of 9/11.

Citizens Hose Company of Smyrna
The Citizens Hose Company of Smyrna and the Smyrna Clayton Ministerial Association will host a 9/11-remembrance service starting at 7 p.m. in front of the Citizens’ Hose Company station.

Donate blood on Sept. 11, receive free NASCAR Cup Series tickets
Dover International Speedway will pay tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with the annual 9/11 Memorial Blood Drive, set for Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino.

This marks the 14th consecutive year that Dover International Speedway, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino and the Blood Bank of Delmarva have partnered together for this event, dating to 2006.

In appreciation to all who register this year, each person will receive a pair of general admission tickets to the Sunday, Oct. 6, Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Dover International Speedway.

“The Sept. 11, 2001, tragedies remain vivid in the minds of all who lived through it and experienced the immediate aftermath,” said Mike Tatoian, the president and CEO of Dover International Speedway. “Our annual Blood Drive is a significant way for the community to remember those sacrifices and contribute to an important cause.”

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoff race on Sunday, Oct. 6 is the first race of the Round of 12 in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series postseason. It is also the 100th NASCAR Cup Series race in Dover International Speedway’s history and the final race of the Monster Mile’s 50th Anniversary season. Dover will be the 10th track in the country to host 100 or more NASCAR Cup Series events.

The 9/11 Memorial Blood Drive is open to the public and appointments should be scheduled by calling 1-888-8-BLOOD-8 or visiting www.DelmarvaBlood.org. Although advance appointments are strongly encouraged, walk-in donors will be welcomed and taken as time permits.

Sussex County

 Milton Memorial Park
The Milton Fire Department and VFW Broadkill Post 6984, and the town of Milton will host a ceremony in Milton Memorial Park beginning at 7 p.m.

Statewide

Flag Lowered
By a joint resolution approved 12/18/2001, (Public Law 107-89) September 11th of each year has been designated as “Patriot Day”. This law also directs the flags be lowered to half-staff for the entire day on September 11th.
