Man convicted of murder after New Castle County Police Cold Case Investigation.
On July 17, 2012, New Castle County Police responded to Heron Court in the community of Sparrow Run for reports than a man had shot. When officers arrived they found Jeremiah MacDonald, known as “Farmer,” suffering from multiple from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives with the Major Crimes Squad Detectives investigated but were unable to make an arrest and the case went cold.
In 2016 Cold Case Homicide Squad Detectives picked up the case and began re-examining the evidence and re-interviewing witnesses. Through their investigation, Detectives identified Kevin Miller, known as “Chevy,” 37 at the time of the shooting, as the suspect.

On November 21, 2016, Cold Case Homicide Squad Detectives presented the case to a grand jury and indictment was hand down for Miller.
Miller was arrested on December 2, 2016, and charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited due to a previous felony conviction. Miller was already at the Vaughn Correctional Center being held on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest for murder.
On Friday a Superior Court jury convicted Miller, now 40, of Murder First Degree and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony in connection with the 2012 fatal shooting of MacDonald. Following the jury verdict, a Superior Court judge convicted Miller of Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited. A sentencing date has not been set.
Detective Brian Shahan and Retired Sergeant Glenn Davis of the New Castle County Police Department’s Cold Case Homicide Unit led the investigation.
Readers may remember that MacDonald was one of the first cases posted to New Castle County’s new cold case website. The site allows the public to read information about each case and it also allows potential witnesses to submit tips regarding the cases.
