Firefighter Injured As Controlled Burn Spreads, Destroys Structure

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal investigated a structure fire that damaged an unoccupied dwelling structure in Georgetown, Delaware yesterday, according to Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal John Galaska.

Galaska said the fire, reported shortly after 10:30 A.M. , occurred to a structure in the 22000 block of Simpler Branch Road. The Millsboro Fire Company arrived on the scene and found smoke and flames coming from the structure. Mutual aid fire companies assisted at the scene.

State fire investigators were called to the scene and performed an investigation to determine the fire’s origin and cause. The result of this investigation concluded that the fire was accidental in nature, caused by an adjacent controlled burn that spread to the structure.

Fire damage is estimated at $40,000. A firefighter was transported to Beebe Hospital from the scene for evaluation in stable condition.
