Wilmington – Wilmington Police said the homicide investigation from the 2200 block of N. Market Street continued into the early morning hours and remains active and ongoing at this hour. The victims have been identified as Ainsley Cumberbatch,Jr., 23, of Wilmington who was pronounced deceased on scene and Jamiel Congo, 23, also of Wilmington who succumbed to his injuries at the Christiana Hospital, according to police.
The incident occurred yesterday, February 21, 2017, at approximately 10:54 a.m. as Uniform Services Division officers responded to the area of 22nd and N. Market Street in reference to a shots fired investigation with a possible person down, according to police.
Arriving officers located two victims in the 2200 block of N. Market Street. One victim, described as a 23-year-old male was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his head and was pronounced deceased on scene by New Castle County Paramedics.
The second victim, identified as a 23-year-male was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his right arm and chest areas. That victim was treated on scene by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to the Christiana Hospital Emergency Room in critical condition where he later died.
The incident in 2200 block of N. Market Street lead police to closed both North and Southbound lanes of N. Market Street for several hours yesterday.
