The Wilmington Fire Department responded to a house fire early Wednesday morning according to Public Information Officer Captain Matthew Marsella.
Marsella said just after midnight on Wednesday, January 12th, the Wilmington Fire Department responded to 1108 Chestnut Street for a residential structure fire. Engine 6 was first on scene with smoke showing from a two-story, middle of the row, residential dwelling.
Ladder 2 and Engine 6 crew members began a search for victims while simultaneously extinguishing a fire located in the middle bedroom on the second floor. The fire was contained to the bedroom with minor fire and smoke damage to the roofing materials above the room.
The residence did have working smoke detectors and all residents were accounted for with no injuries. The situation was placed under control by Battalion Chief 1 at 12:31 am. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries to fire department personnel were reported.
Approximately 35 fire and EMS personnel responded to the fire. The following units responded: Engine 6, Engine 1, Engine 5, Engine 2 Squad 4, Ladder 1, Ladder 2, Battalion-1, Battalion-2, FM-12, St. Francis EMS, New Castle County Paramedics, Wilmington License & Inspection, Wilmington Police, American Red Cross, and Delmarva Power.
