Police Chase Leads To Roll Over, Escape From Jail And Suspect Being Tased

Harrington – On Monday, February 27, 2017 the Harrington Police Department arrested Dionne E. Warner 35, of Dublin Hill Rd. in Bridgeville after he attempted to flee from a Harrington Officer in a vehicle, according to Harrington Police Captain Earl K. Brode.

Brode said that while on patrol at around 8:02 pm, a Harrington Officer attempted to stop a vehicle, being operated by Warner on South DuPont Hwy. in the area of Fairgrounds Road for a traffic violation.

When the officer activated the emergency lights the vehicle fled and led the officer on a pursuit said Brode. The pursuit traveled onto Tower Hill Road, Farmington Road and Hammondtown Road. The vehicle then continued onto Prospect Church Road and then Todds Chapel Road. While on Todds Chapel Road the vehicle failed to negotiate a turn and left the roadway and rolled over, according to Brode.

Brode said that Warner then exited the vehicle and fled on foot leading the officer in a foot pursuit. The officer then deployed their department issued Taser and took Warner into custody after a short pursuit.

While searching the vehicle police located drug paraphernalia, said Brode. Warner was treated by EMS on scene, efused any medical attention, refused to be transported to a hospital and was then transported to the Harrington Police Department for processing, according to Brode.

While at the Harrington Police Department, Warner was being escorted to the restroom when he fled from the officer and out of the building, said Brode.

Police then chased Warner on foot and after another foot pursuit took him into custody, according to authorities. He was then taken back to the Harrington Police Department and charged with Disregarding a Police Officer Signal, two counts of Resisting Arrest, Escape Third Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, driving with a suspended or revoked license, failure to have insurance identification in possession, failure to have registration card in possession, seven counts of failure to signal turn, two counts of failure to stop at stop sign, six counts of failure to drive at appropriate speed, failure to obey a traffic control device and drive in proper lane and direction, said Brode.

Warner also had an active warrant issued by Probation and Parole for absconding. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace 7 and issued a $3,720 secured bail. An administrative warrant was also issued by Probation and Parole. Mr. Warner was the committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of bond.
