Time capsules preserve history, and one was found Friday at the new Bancroft School project construction site while demolishing the Drew Educational Support Center, formerly Christina School District’s Administration Office, officials said Wednesday.
Demolition started on the Drew Educational Support Center a few months ago to make room for the new Bancroft School project, which will be the first new school in decades for Wilmington. The new school will be fully funded by the state and is expected to cost $82MM.
The time capsule, discovered by Whiting Turner who is managing the construction project at the old Drew building, was found tucked behind the 1953 brick marker. They were complimented for preserving the brick and original casing of the capsule.
Dr. Dan Shelton, Superintendent of Schools said, “people have been trying to guess for days what may be inside the mysterious box found at the Drew building – we will get the answer on Tuesday night.”
The contents of the time capsule will be revealed at the upcoming Christina School District Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday, August 9th. All are welcome to attend. The meeting will be held in-person at The Bancroft School, 700 N. Lombard Street, Wilmington, Delaware at 7:00 PM and live streamed at www.christinak12.org/BOE-Meeting.
