Gunman Carjacks Man In The Middle Of Newark Street

Officials said on Monday, July 3, 2023, a carjacking incident took place on Library Avenue (SR 72) south of Wyoming Road, prompting a response from the Newark Police Department.

The victim told arriving officers that at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon, a black Dodge SUV abruptly stopped in front of the victim’s vehicle. Regrettably, the victim’s car collided with the rear of the Dodge due to the sudden halt. A suspect then emerged from the Dodge and confronted the victim. The assailant, described as a black male wearing a light green shirt and a mask, brandished a handgun and ordered the victim to step away from his vehicle. The suspect subsequently commandeered the victim’s car and fled the scene.

Officials did not say if the Dodge vehicle was recovered or if it had been involved in a previous incident. The victim’s vehicle has since been recovered police said. Police are seeking the public’s assistance in apprehending the suspect.
