Are We Tired Of This Yet?, Man Trying To Help Lost Motorist Carjacked At Gunpoint

The Delaware State Police are investigating a carjacking that occurred early this morning on South Market Street in Wilmington.

Officials said on August 24, 2023, at approximately 3:18 a.m., troopers responded to the area of South Market Street and Rogers Road in Wilmington, for a report of a carjacking.

The investigation revealed that the victim, a 67-year-old man from New Castle, was stopped on the shoulder helping a lost motorist when an unknown SUV stopped next to the victim’s unoccupied car. The suspect, an unknown male, got out from the passenger side of the SUV, displayed a handgun in his waistband, and took the victim’s car. The suspect and the unidentified SUV fled towards I-495 southbound.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing dark-colored clothing. Surveillance images and video are not available at this time.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Robbery Unit is investigating this incident. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact Detective D. Armstrong by calling 302-365-8440.
