The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is actively investigating last night’s townhouse fire in Middletown. The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:30 PM, took place in the 1600 block of West Matisse Drive, located in the Bayberry North Development. Responding first to the scene was the Odessa Fire Company.
Chief Deputy Robert Fox of the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office indicated that upon the firefighters’ arrival, the residence was found to be extensively engulfed in flames. This led to an immediate escalation to a second alarm, calling for additional firefighting units to assist at the scene.
Deputies from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fire’s cause and origin. There were no injuries reported. However, the fire resulted in considerable property damage: one townhouse was completely destroyed, and two others sustained heavy damage, with the estimated damage cost at around $500,000.
