On April 4, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the Cynwyd Club Apartment Complex for a domestic-related incident.
While investigating the domestic, the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Tyrese Knuckles, fled on foot from officers. Responding officers located Knuckles in the area of Limestone Road (Route 7) and Milltown Road where a struggle occurred.
During the struggle with Knuckles, an eight-year veteran of the New Castle County Division of Police discharged his firearm striking him. Knuckles entered the Officer’s fully marked police vehicle and fled the area. A vehicle pursuit began, during which Knuckles collided with several pursuing police vehicles.
The pursuit continued through Delaware and into Pennsylvania where the stolen police car was involved in a collision on I-95 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Following that crash, Knuckles fled again on foot but was ultimately taken into custody. Knuckles was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for treatment for gunshot wounds and injuries sustained during the collisions. He is currently listed in stable condition.
A three-year veteran of the New Castle County Division of Police was admitted to Christiana Care Hospital in stable condition for injuries sustained during one of the initial collisions involving the stolen police car.
Tyrese Knuckles was found to be wanted by the Philadelphia Police Department for stalking.
The Pennsylvania State Police are assisting the New Castle County Police with the investigation of the collision that occurred in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
The officer who discharged his firearm has been placed on Administrative Leave per Department policy pending an internal investigation, as well as a joint investigation with the Delaware Department of Justice Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust.

Authorities are investigating at multiple locations after a domestic dispute reportedly escalated into an officer-involved shooting early Thursday morning.
The New Castle County Division of Police is currently around the Cynwyd Club Apartments in Milltown. They have also closed Limestone Road in the area with yellow police tape, marking the site of what is suspected to be the site of the shooting incident.
Authorities are also investigating at a scene on Interstate 95 in Chester, Delaware County. The northbound lanes have been shut down following a chase that reportedly stemmed from the domestic dispute at the apartments in Milltown just after 2:30 am. Initial reports indicate that an officer was involved in an altercation with a suspect and reportedly shot the suspect. The suspect then reportedly stole a patrol vehicle and led police on a chase that ended with a crash on I-95 in Pennsylvania.
The pursuit saw the involvement of several police agencies and covered more than 20 miles, moving from northern New Castle County into Wilmington, via Maryland Avenue to Northeast Boulevard, and then northward on I-495. Reports indicate that during the chase, the suspect attempted to, or succeeded in, ramming one of the police vehicles in pursuit.
A New Castle County police officer crash into a brick wall on Maryland Avenue near Newport around 3:10. The specifics of whether this crash was a direct result of the suspect’s actions remain unclear. The officer involved in the crash was subsequently transported to Christiana Hospital; the nature and severity of the injuries have not been disclosed.
The chase concluded near the Commodore Barry Bridge, where the suspect was found with gunshot wounds after the suspect reportedly crashed.
The suspect has been taken to a hospital, but the current medical status remains undisclosed.
