Brazen Thieves Target Sunoco ATMs Across New Castle County

Overnight, brazen thieves targeted multiple ATMs across New Castle County, causing significant damage to gas station facades. The exact timing of the incidents remains unclear, but police were on scene early Saturday morning investigating in New Castle and Newark.

At the Sunoco gas station on Route 896, heavy damage was observed at the front of the building, with the ATM left lying in the parking lot. Similarly, severe damage was reported at a location on South Main Street in Newark, across from the police station.

A third robbery took place on Route 13 in New Castle, with comparable damage to the ATM and surrounding area. All three of the listed locations are Sunoco‘s two of which are owned by the same owner.

In the Route 13 incident five individuals rammed a green cargo van through the wall, gaining access to the ATM. That incident turned somewhat comical when the thieves struggled to lift the ATM into the van for several minutes, ultimately giving up and fleeing the area.

There’s some information that there may be more than three locations, we’re working to confirm that.

Authorities have not yet released detailed information regarding these incidents.
