Fire Ravages Back Creek Golf Club Pavilion, No Injuries Reported

On Wednesday, a massive fire engulfed the outing pavilion at the Back Creek Golf Club, located at 101 Back Creek Drive. The incident, which resulted in a partial collapse of the structure, prompted an immediate response from multiple fire departments across New Castle County, Kent County, and Cecil County, Maryland.

The blaze was first reported just before 1:30 in the afternoon, with initial reports indicating that the structure was fully engulfed in flames upon the arrival of first responders. Due to the intensity of the fire, Command struck a second alarm, calling for additional resources to assist in the firefighting efforts. Firefighters from Newark, Smyrna, Townsend, Christiana, Odessa, Port Penn, Middletown, Delaware City, New Castle, the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office, and New Castle County EMS were among those who responded to the scene.

The firefighting efforts were conducted from the exterior of the building due to the hazardous conditions inside. Despite the scale of the fire and the challenging circumstances, the responders successfully contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to adjacent areas.

In a social media post following the incident, Back Creek Golf Club expressed gratitude for the quick and effective actions of the first responders. “First and foremost, we are fortunate that no one was injured but we are saddened by the unexpected event,” the post read. “We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the first responders who acted promptly and effectively during this incident. Their professionalism and bravery were instrumental in ensuring the safety of all individuals involved as well as preventing further spread of the fire.”

The post also noted that the club’s team is taking all necessary measures to ensure that operations continue smoothly. However, some disruptions were inevitable. The Grille will be closed on June 20th, and the one-year anniversary concert was postponed. Despite these setbacks, golf operations will proceed as scheduled according to the post.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
