Two More Charged In Middletown Shooting

Middletown, Police have made two more arrest in the May 21, 2024, shooting on the 400 block of N. Catherine Street.

Officials said at around 7:00 pm on May 21, 2024, Middletown Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of N. Catherine Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered several shell casings and vehicles damaged by gunfire.

During the incident, Lawrence Ray, a 29-year-old resident of Elkton, Maryland, was admitted to Middletown Emergency Hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Subsequent investigation revealed that Ray had been involved in an altercation prior to the shooting and had discharged a firearm, resulting in damage to nearby vehicles and residences. Ray was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and two counts of reckless endangering in the first degree. He remains in custody on a $70,000 cash bond.

Over the following months, the Middletown Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit pursued leads that identified Elijah Haynes, 21, of Middletown (Right), and Demetrius Lyn-Brown, 21, of Bear (Left), as suspects in the shooting. The Middletown Police Department, with the assistance of the Delaware State Police, took suspects into custody on Wednesday.

Both Lyn-Brown and Haynes have been charged with assault in the first degree, reckless endangering in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and conspiracy in the second degree. Lyn-Brown was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court #2 and held on a $128,000 cash bail, while Haynes was issued a $43,000 cash bail. Both suspects have been committed to the Department of Corrections pending the posting of bail.
