Man Wanted For Striking Pedestrian On Newark’s Main Street, Fleeing

Newark Police is actively searching for a Wilmington man wanted for striking a pedestrian.

On October 27, 2024, at about 0034 hours, a Newark police officer observed a vehicle spinning its tires, leaving smoke and burned rubber on the roadway, in the 100-block of East Main Street. 

Officials said the vehicle began to drive at a high rate of speed westbound on East Main Street.  The officer activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle.  The vehicle turned onto Academy Street, striking a pedestrian in the crosswalk at East Main Street according to police.  The vehicle fled the scene and the officer did not pursue the vehicle.

Although the pedestrian who was struck initially declined medical treatment, they later were found to have suffered serious physical injury.

Through investigation, the driver of the vehicle was identified as Roger Brown, 22, of Wilmington.

On October 31, an arrest warrant was issued by Justice of the Peace Court #2, charging Brown with Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (use of the vehicle as a weapon), Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal, Vehicular Assault Second Degree, Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Injury and numerous additional traffic offenses.
