New Castle, DE — Emergency crews responded to a serious rollover crash this afternoon on the southbound side of I-95 at the onramp to I-295 northbound.
According to initial reports, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control, veered off the roadway, and crashed into a wooded area. The impact caused the driver to be partially ejected from the vehicle according to initial reports from the scene. Emergency medical personnel arrived quickly and transported the driver to a nearby trauma center for treatment. The current condition of the driver has not yet been released.
In response to the crash, the ramp to I-295 northbound was closed to allow emergency responders to work safely. Crews are now working to remove the heavily damaged vehicle from the wooded area, which is expected to take additional time.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and expect delays in the area as cleanup efforts continue. The closure is expected to remain in place until further notice.
