Police Update Injuries In Crash Involving Officer

On Sunday, March 30, 2025, at approximately 6:15 p.m., an officer traveling eastbound on Christiana Road in the area of Thomas Garrett Drive when a silver Kia Optima crossed the grass median, striking the front of the marked patrol vehicle. The impact was severe, causing the Kia to split in half. Two rear-seat passengers—a 10-year-old and a 13-year-old—were ejected from the car. The driver, a 37-year-old woman, and the front passenger, a 15-year-old, remained in the car as it continued into the eastbound lanes of Christiana Road.

The officer was briefly trapped inside his patrol vehicle until a fellow officer arrived and freed him through the passenger side door. These officers, along with additional responding units, immediately began rendering aid and performing life-saving measures to all involved, including applying multiple tourniquets to the 10-year-old child. New Castle County Paramedics and additional EMS personnel arrived and continued medical treatment.

The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later released. The driver and all three child passengers from the Kia were also transported to area hospitals for medical treatment. As of today, April 4, 2025:

• The 10-year-old child remains in critical but stable condition
• The 13-year-old child is now in stable condition
• The 37-year-old female is now in stable condition
• The 15-year-old child has been treated and released
