DOVER, Del. — A late-night hit-and-run on North DuPont Highway led to the loss of a 62-year-old woman and have police searching for the driver responsible.

The Dover Police Department said that Barbara Benson, 62, of Dover, was struck and killed early Sunday morning. Officers were dispatched at 2:48 a.m. to the 200 block of North DuPont Highway after receiving a report of a pedestrian collision. When officers arrived, they found Benson critically injured and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that Benson was struck nearly 30 minutes earlier, around 2:20 a.m., by a southbound black 2001 Toyota Avalon traveling in the right lane official said Monday. The driver failed to stop and continued down the highway according to police.

Officials said through investigative efforts, police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Aaliyah Graves of Chestertown, Maryland. The vehicle involved was later located in Worton, Maryland, but Graves has not been found. Warrants have been issued for her arrest, and police are actively working with regional authorities to bring her into custody.

Officials are urging anyone with information on Graves’ whereabouts to come forward. The Dover Police Department emphasized that tips, no matter how small, may be critical to the investigation.

This case remains ongoing, and further updates will be provided as additional details become available.
