Trooper Saves Infant On Valentines Day

What began as a routine traffic stop turned into a life-saving moment for one family in Cecil County on Saturday morning.

Just before 9:45 a.m. on February 14, Trooper First Class Nicholas Warren, a seven-year veteran assigned to the Maryland State Police North East Barrack, was finishing up a stop near Walnut Drive in Elkton when another car suddenly pulled alongside his patrol vehicle. The driver rolled down the window and called out in panic, saying their baby was choking.

Trooper Warren didn’t hesitate. He immediately called for emergency medical services and rushed to the vehicle. He quickly took the infant into his arms and began performing back blows, just as he had been trained to do, officials said. Within moments, the obstruction was cleared and the baby started breathing again.

Emergency medical services personnel responded shortly after to evaluate the infant. The swift actions, training, and composure demonstrated by Trooper First Class Warren are credited with preventing what could have been a tragic outcome.
