Two Die In Separate Motorcycle Crashes Tuesday

Two motorcyclists died in separate crashes Tuesday evening in Newark, according to Delaware State Police.

The first crash was reported at about 6:00 p.m. on Christiana Road near Harmony Road. Police said a Honda CBR motorcycle traveling eastbound struck the passenger side of an Audi Q5 that was turning left into McIntosh Plaza. The 34-year-old Newark man operating the motorcycle was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 37-year-old Bear man driving the Audi reported no injuries.

A second fatal motorcycle crash occurred at about 7:20 p.m. on Churchmans Road at Center Point Plaza. Police said a Harley-Davidson Sportster traveling westbound on Churchmans Road at an apparent high rate of speed failed to stop at a red light and struck a Nissan Rogue that was turning left with a green light. The motorcycle operator was ejected and struck the front of a Chevrolet Equinox that was stopped at the intersection.

The 29-year-old Wilmington man operating the Harley-Davidson was taken to an area hospital, where he died. The driver of the Equinox and an 11-year-old passenger involved in the second crash were not injured.

Both names are being withheld pending family notification. The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating both crashes.
