An 18-year-old Newark man who was identified by Wilmington Police as a gunshot victim in a weekend shooting investigation is now facing multiple felony charges.
Wilmington Police announced Tuesday that Amari Brown, 18, of Newark, was charged following an investigation into a shooting that occurred at approximately 6:39 p.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of West 3rd Street.
Officers initially responded to reports of gunfire and learned a 4-year-old child had been struck by gunfire. The child was transported to Nemours Children’s Health and reported to be in stable condition at the time of transport. Brown reportely arrived at St. Francis Hospital in stable condition on his own.
According to investigators, Brown was the adult victim injured in the incident. Police allege that he exchanged gunfire with multiple unidentified individuals during the shooting.
He has been charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, first-degree reckless endangering, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance, and criminal mischief under $1,000.
Brown was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after bail was set at $660,400 cash. His first appearence will be on June 23rd.
