The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Monday night on Whiteleysburg Road in Harrington.
Officials said on July 13, 2026, at approximately 10:45 p.m., a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound, near the 1500 block of Whiteleysburg Road. The preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian was reportedly lying in the roadway. As a result, the Silverado was unable to stop and struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian, 62-year-old Jimmy Burgess, of Harrington, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
