Delaware State Police have arrested a 42-year-old New Castle man on vehicular homicide and DUI charges following a crash that killed a motorcyclist Saturday night.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m. on August 15, 2026, as an Indian Scout motorcycle was traveling northbound in the right lane of U.S. Route 13 approaching Schafer Boulevard. At the same time, a Mazda 6 was traveling westbound on Schafer Boulevard toward Route 13.
Police said their preliminary investigation determined that the Mazda failed to stop and struck the motorcycle. Troopers identified the Mazda driver as Samuel Larkin, 42, of New Castle. Police said Larkin showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody without incident.
The motorcycle operator, a 54-year-old New Castle woman, was transported to an area hospital, where she died. Her name is being withheld pending notification of her family.
Larkin was taken to Delaware State Police Troop 2, where police said he underwent Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide involving driving under the influence and negligently causing death, driving under the influence of alcohol, and failure to stop at a stop sign.
Larkin was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on a $5,101 secured bond.
Route 13 was closed for approximately three hours while investigators processed and cleared the crash scene.
