Troopers Identify Man Killed In Saturday Accident

Delaware State Police have identified the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night in Laurel.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. on August 15, 2026, as a Toyota Camry was traveling southbound in the right lane of Sussex Highway approaching Oasis Drive. At the same time, Housel was walking westbound in the right lane of southbound Sussex Highway when he was struck by the Toyota.

Officials said 41-year-old Richard Housel of Laurel was transported to an area hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Toyota, a 21-year-old Laurel man, was not injured.

Sussex Highway was closed for approximately three hours while investigators examined and cleared the scene. Delaware State Police continue to investigate the crash.
