Dewey Beach Police arrested two Delaware men early Sunday after a disorderly incident outside a Coastal Highway restaurant led officers to deploy Tasers on both men.
Police said officers were in the 2000 block of Coastal Highway on September 13 when they encountered 24-year-old Ezra Pendleton of Lincoln, who had reportedly become hostile inside The Starboard and was removed by security staff. Pendleton allegedly continued yelling profanities and acting disorderly outside, causing nearby patrons to move away.
As officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, 22-year-old Oliver Barnes of Milford initially tried to calm Pendleton before a physical altercation broke out between the two men.
Police said Pendleton failed to comply with repeated commands from officers, prompting an officer to deploy a department-issued Taser. He was then taken into custody.
During Pendleton’s arrest, Barnes allegedly interfered with officers, made physical contact with one of them and refused repeated commands to step back. Police deployed a Taser on Barnes before taking him into custody.
Investigators later learned that before Pendleton was removed from the restaurant, he allegedly threatened a member of the security staff. Police said the statements included references to Pendleton having previously shot someone and a threat to do so again.
Barnes was issued criminal summonses for offensive touching and disorderly conduct and released on his own recognizance.
Pendleton was charged with criminal trespass, resisting arrest, terroristic threatening and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned through Delaware Justice of the Peace Court and released on a $2,200 unsecured bond.
No serious injuries were reported.
